Nov 06, 2012 (newstodate): While cargo volumes trail behind last year's at Hungary's Budapest Airport, there is still a need for more cargo handling options.
-There are currently two cargo handling providers at Budapest Airport - Farnair Handling and Celebi Ground Handling Hungary. But we are currently in discussions with another handling provider in order to set up a third handling option, says Christa Soltau, Budapest Airport Vice President of Cargo and Logistics.
-Regardless of the current drop in volumes after the demise of Malev early in 2012, we find it necessary to expand the provision of cargo handling services with at least a third provider in order to maintain competition and secure attractive handling charges for cargo carriers.
-We cannot of course reveal further information on these negotiations, but I would expect some great news within a fairly reasonable future, says Ms Soltau.
Budapest Airport now estimates to land around 92,000 tonnes of cargo in 2012, down from 106,000 in 2011.
