Nov 20, 2012 (newstodate): Taking effect from December 1, 2012, Finnair and Malaysia Airlines are expanding their code-share agreement to comprise flights to and from the two airlines' hubs in Helsinki and Kuala Lumpur, respectively.
From this date, Finnair's flights from Helsinki to Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London and Paris will be code-shared with Malaysia Airlines, while Malaysia Airlines' flights from Kuala Lumpur to Hong Kong and Singapore will carry also Finnair's flight numbers.
Finnair launched its service on the route between Helsinki and Kuala Lumpur from May 21, 2007, after Malaysia Airlines laid down its only Nordic service between Malaysia and Sweden from January 15, 2007.
The two countries negotiated an open skies agreement by the end of 2006, opening up for more air traffic between Finland and Kuala Lumpur.
In its sustained efforts to boost Asian traffic loads, Finnair has been actively expanding its code-share agreements with Asian airlines in 2012, connecting with Bangkok Airways from February 2012, and expanding its existing code-share agreement with Japan Air Lines also in February prior to the launch of four weekly services by JAL to Finland from March 2013.
