Nov 09, 2012 (newstodate): Poland's Lodz Airport is moderate in cargo volumes, but the growth trend is manifest in 2012.
In the first ten months of this year, the airport has handled a total of 618 tonnes of cargo, compared to 295 tonnes in all of 2011.
The positive growth started during H1 in 2011, probably driven by the European football frenzy.
But while volumes stood at a flat zero during the first half of 2011, cargo has continued to flow ever since, warranting a new position in Poland's airfreight industry.
The airport is mostly served by low-cost carriers and charter operators, but from the start of this winter's schedule SAS has launched services from Copenhagen to Lodz, becoming the first network carrier to operate at the airport.
The airline is offering six weekly rotations on the route, reduced, however, to three weekly rotations during the period January 1-Februar 15, 2013, and using a Cimber Air CRJ-200 aircraft.
