Nov 29, 2012 (newstodate): Sweden's airports, managed by Swedavia, are seeing cargo volumes significantly down in 2012.
According to the latest update from Swedavia covering the period January-October 2012, the combined airfreight volumes handled at the three main Swedavia-airports Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg Landvetter and Malmo Sturup dropped by 20.2 percent, y-o-y, to 172,546 tonnes.
Cargo volumes at Stockholm Arlanda Airport were down 18.9 percent, y-o-y, to 105,170 tonnes, while the second-largest airport, Gothenburg Landvetter Airport saw volumes down by 27.5 percent, y-o-y, to 21,198 tonnes.
The steep drop at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport was caused not least by the move from September 7, 2012, of Asiana Cargo's Korea-bound freighter service to Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
Finally Malmo Sturup Airport where volumes dropped by 6.6 percent, y-o-y, to 21,198 tonnes of cargo.
Swedavia, however, claims that there are slight improvements in the latter part of the period at Stockholm Arlanda and Malmo Sturup, compared to the first months of 2012.
