Nov 12, 2012 (newstodate): International cargo volumes took a major leap forward in October 2012 at Norway's Oslo Gardermoen Airport.
International volumes were up 25 percent, y-o-y, to a total of 6,972 tonnes, which increased the total cargo volumes at the airport by 19.2 percent to 9,855 tonnes - the highest monthly volume so far in 2012.
Contributing heavily to this impressive growth was Asiana Cargo that from September 7, 2012, moved its twice-weekly Boeing 747-400F operation to Oslo from Sweden's Gothenburg Landvetter Airport on the return leg of the route from Frankfurt to Incheon, South Korea.
The move of operations by Asiana did not in itself throw new capacity into the Scandinavian market as the loads earlier lifted from Gothenburg consisted almost entirely of Norwegian salmon exports to Asia.
Airfreight volumes at Oslo Gardermoen Airport in January-October 2012 were thus 85,753 tonnes, an increase by 8.8 percent, y-o-y.
