Nov 06, 2012 (newstodate): Serbia's vacillating carrier JAT seems to be in talks with Airbus over delivery of up to 12 Airbus A320 aircraft.
If carried through, the deal would finally put an end to the dispute since 1998 over the fate of the earlier contract for eight Airbus A319 aircraft, placed by the Milosovic-government and never realized beyond the fact that Serbia did deposit a down-payment that has never been refunded or transformed into an actual deal.
This down-payment would now reportedly go together with a further sum from Serbia allowing Airbus to start deliveries of the new aircraft to replace and replenish the existing fleet comprising 10 Boeing 737-300 and four ATR-72 aircraft.
In the meantime, the Serb government is again mulling plans for letting the existing JAT go bankrupt and replace it with a "new" JAT relieved of the debt piles burdening the existing carrier.
