Oct 03, 2012 (newstodate): The Ukrainian government has opened prospects for a future sale of a stake in the country's Kiev Boryspil International Airport.
The country's Ministry of Infrastructure has arrived at the conclusion that attracting a private investor to buy a concession for management of the airport will be the optimal solution to the needs for establishing the airport as a future hub in the region.
The country's two leading airlines, Aerosvit and the privately-owned Ukraine International Airlines endorse the government's decision and have expressed their interest in further joint development and growth of Ukraine's largest airports transit potential.
The two carriers together account for 70 percent of the passenger volumes through the airport and are keen to grow their transfer traffic further.
In 2011, Kiev Boryspil International Airport handled eight mio passengers, and during the first eight months of 2012, the airport has handled a total of 21,866 tonnes of cargo and 3,544 tonnes of mail.
