Oct 05, 2012 (newstodate): Russia is short of airline pilots despite efforts to train new cockpit crews.
Russia currently has about 12,000 certified commercial pilots, but many airlines are in deficit of new pilots, like Aeroflot that reportedly is now short of 150 cockpit crew members.
Over-all, Russia is said to be short of some 1,000 pilots.
Russian law currently prohibits hiring foreign pilots, but the country's ministry of transportation is now airing a proposal to open up for allowing airlines to hire staff outside the country.
