Oct 30, 2012 (newstodate): Currently an airline in the SAS Group, the Norwegian carrier Wideroe may soon come under new ownership.
SAS is reportedly mulling plans for divesting of various non-essential assets in an effort to build a capital basis strong enough to secure a future for the airline in the face of competition and looming huge pension obligations.
Plans are reportedly to set up a new ownership with 50 percent of the stake to be held by Wideroe employees and 50 percent held by other investors.
Wideroe currently operates a fleet comprising 19 Dash 8-100, three Dash 8-200, eight DHC-8-300 and nine Dash 8-400 aircraft used on domestic flights in Norway as well as on Scandinavian services to Denmark and Sweden, and international flights to the UK.
