Oct 15, 2012 (newstodate): Russia's Interport has now commissioned a new transfer cargo terminal at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport.
A prime mover for the project is a growing volume of transfer cargo by carriers using the airport as a hub, primarily the country's largest cargo airline AirBridgeCargo.
The 3,000 sq m facility is designed to handling of up to 700 tonnes of cargo, with a maximum storage time of three days allowing airlines to connect their cargo transportation through Sheremetyevo Airport.
Interport was set up earlier this year as a management company to consolidate and manage transportation and logistics assets as well as to develop a new freight airport infrastructure, with a focus on Sheremetyevo and Krasnoyarsk Yemelyanovo Airport.
At Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, Interport is building up a new cargo village to comprise all airfreight business at the airport.
