Oct 31, 2012 (newstodate): Following a tender process, Lufthansa Cargo has chosen Swissport as its new cargo handling agent at Copenhagen Airport.
The agreement takes effect from December 1, 2012, replacing Lufthansa Cargo's long-term cooperation with Spirit Air Cargo Handling at Copenhagen, while Lufthansa Cargo retains its contract with Spirit at Billund Airport.
The contract with the new prestigious airline customers marks another triumph for Swissport's cargo handling facility at Copenhagen Airport that started its operations on July 1, 2012, as the handling company's first cargo station in the Nordic market, headed by Morten Lihme as managing director.
Lufthansa Cargo has been cooperating with SAS Cargo since its launch of services in the Danish market, only suspended during a brief period 1992-99 when Lufthansa Cargo was a driving force behind the opening of a new handling company, Cargo Center Copenhagen.
After that period, the two parties teamed up again as part of the general efforts by the two airlines to integrate operations and even organizations during the WOW-period and efforts to move "under one roof".
