Oct 17, 2012 (newstodate): Hopes by Lithuania's Kaunas Airport for an early resumption of freighter traffic in 2012 were not kindled by results in September.
Actually, the airport again saw no air cargo at all, handling only 150 tonnes of mail during September 2012.
August 2012 generated 199 tonnes of air cargo on IL-62 aircraft chartered by the Lithuanian logistics provider Hoptrans that was earlier behind a series of ex-China freighter operations first operated with Polet Airlines, later with Jade Air Cargo but stalled as this carrier ceased operations.
During January-September 2012, Kaunas Airport has thus seen volumes totaling only 315 tonnes of airfreight and 1,265 tonnes of mail.
In 2011 the airport handled 4,222 tonnes of cargo including 2,635 tonnes of airfreight and 1,587 tonnes of mail.
