Oct 12, 2012 (newstodate): Japan Airlines has now set the date for launching flights to Finland - the first new service by the carrier between Japan and Europe in 20 years.
The carrier's first flight from Tokyo Narita Airport to Helsinki, Finland, will take to the air on February 25, 2013.
Japan Airlines will offer four weekly rotations on the route in cooperation with Finnair, and the timetable will be coordinated with Finnair to provide optimal transfers to and from Finnair's European flights, especially targeting destinations in Northern, Eastern and Central Europe.
Today, four flights operated by JAL to destinations in Japan - Haneda, Fukuoka, Sapporo and Okinawa - also carry Finnair flight numbers.
JAL meanwhile has its own flight numbers for all Finnair flights between Helsinki and Japan - Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya - as well as for 11 onward Finnair flights to European destinations.
As a unique feature, the new route will be served with Japan Airline's Boeing 787-8 aircraft, of which the carrier has ordered 25 units.
Until late in the 80'ies, Japan Airlines operated flights to Copenhagen, Denmark, so the new flights to Finland will be its first and so far only connection to the Nordic region.
