Oct 08, 2012 (newstodate): In a virtual curfew on news on SAS' expected sale of its ground handling company, SGH, the flow of rumors in the industry is now gaining momentum.
According to credible industry sources, SAS is expected to finally announce a decision on the future of SGH on October 10, 2012, and the same sources also have it that Swissport may eventually acquire SGH at all major destinations in Scandinavia, while the Nordic handling provider Aviator Airport Alliance Europe AB may take over SGH activities on regional airports in Sweden and Norway.
Swissport earlier announced a Nordic strategy in a story carried by newstodate in May 2012 prior to the opening of the company's first cargo station in the Nordic region.
-The opening at Copenhagen Airport is the second step by Swissport in the Nordic region where we started passenger handling at Finland's Helsinki Vantaa Airport in December 2011, Nils Pries Knudsen, Swissport Snr VP Europe Cargo Services division, said.
-We will certainly go for further expansion in the Nordic region, be it by generic growth or through acquisitions as options emerge.
Aviator Aviator currently providing ground handling services at 22 airports in Norway, Denmark, Finland and Sweden, has also signaled its decision to develop from a country-based strategy to a clear Nordic perspective with lofty ambitions to lift the group to a position among the world's largest providers of aviation services.
