Oct 10, 2012 (newstodate): Finnair has contracted Nordisk Aviation Products to deliver new lightweight ULDs for carriage of cargo on its long-haul Airbus fleet.
As earlier reported, deliveries will start already before the end of this year.
Finnair does not, however, plan to introduce the weight-saving ULDs on its freighter traffic that accounted for about 25 percent of the cargo volume carried during January-September 2012.
The cargo on freighters grew by 15.4 percent in contrast to the belly cargo carried on passenger aircraft that increased by a mere 0.9 percent during the same period.
-Further usage of the light-weight ULDs on freighter operations will be considered later, says a Finnair Cargo spokesperson.
Finnair's freighter loads are carried on three MD-11F aircraft operated by the Helsinki based capacity provider Nordic Global Airlines Ltd, owned by Finnair Group, Neff Capital Management, Daken Capital Partners, and Ilmarinen Mutual Insurance Company.
