Oct 12, 2012 (newstodate): Finnair and Flybe have now completed the process outlined in the MoU from May 2012 for transfer of Finnair's 12 Embraer 190 aircraft to be operated by Flybe Finland Oy from October 28, 2012.
Finnair expects to see some 25 percent in cost saving from the arrangement due to Flybe's more efficient operating model.
The Embraer aircraft will still have Finnair pilots in the cockpit while Finnair's existing Embraer cabin crews have opted out from the new conditions, leaving the cabin to Flybe crews to be hired.
This arrangement comprises about one-third of Finnair's European traffic, and the carrier will now analyze opportunities to improve efficiency also in the European Airbus traffic.
As part of its cost-saving campaign, Finnair is optimizing the size of its fleet in European air traffic, and has discontinued the leases of four Airbus 320 series aircraft in 2012, and subleased five Embraer 170 aircraft to Estonian Air under a one-year contract running till April 2013.
Finnair and Flybe established Flybe Nordic AB in 2011, and Flybe owns 60 per cent and Finnair 40 per cent of this company.
Flybe Finland Oy is 100 per cent owned subsidiary of Flybe Nordic AB.
Before the cooperation announced today, Flybe Finland Oy has operated 15 domestic and other short-haul routes for Finnair as contract flying.
In addition, the company flies several other routes at its own commercial risk.
