Oct 03, 2012 (newstodate): As the first airport operator in Northern Europe, Finavia has adopted the new CDM procedure that will now reduce delays, improve the use of resources, and boost cost-efficiency at the Helsinki Vantaa Airport.
The CDM procedure, collaborative decision making, improves communications between the operators at the airport and provides closer cooperation between landing and take-off.
The net effect is that instead of queuing aircraft in rows on the taxiway with engines running prior to take-off, the departing aircraft will now remain at the gate until clearance and only then ignite the engines, be pushed back, taxi to the runway and take off.
After the adoption of the CDM procedure, the CDM system of the Helsinki Airport will be integrated with a European air traffic management system in November 2012.
This allows more exact and detailed sharing of information on the aircrafts' take-off preparations between the airport and the Network Manager unit of Eurocontrol, the European air traffic coordinator.
