Oct 17, 2012 (newstodate): Russia's Koltsovo Airport, serving Yekaterinburg, is opening for private investors.
In February 2011 the Russian state transferred its stake in the airport to the regional government, and this stake will now be put up for sale, to transform the airport's ownership into a public-private construction.
The airport's plans include the construction of a new airport terminal, a new cargo complex, and a complete renovation of the airport's two current runways as well as construction of a new third runway.
Lufthansa Consulting has been involved in the design of the master plan and the future strategy of the airport.
In 2012, Koltsovo Airport in Sverdlovsk Region officially opened the first stage of a new large cargo terminal as part of a strategy to become a leading cargo cargo hub.
The new facility is a 19,000 sq m terminal developed by the German company Hochtief Airports and designed as the first step in a project for a large-scale cargo village.
From 2018 till 2022 another 22,000 sq meter of terminal and office buildings will be added aiming at reaching a through-put of 80,000 tonnes of cargo by 2030, compared to the 25,000 tonnes handled by the airport in 2011.
