Oct 31, 2012 (newstodate): Icelandair Cargo is seeing volumes rising in 2012, especially in exports.
-Export volumes for North America are increasing, thanks to new Icelandair destinations and higher frequencies, and not least the Icelandic seafood exports to the USA are increasing, says Gunnar Mar Sigurfinnsson, Icelandair Cargo managing director.
-Of course, rates for seafood are comparatively low while still differing according to species, but in combination with other commodities seafood loads are still valuable.
-What counts is basically a balanced operation, and we still see an imbalance between the export that is growing at a fairly high rate, and imports that are also increasing while still at a lower pace. Anyway, the gap is narrowing.
-We do not foresee any changes in the freighter fleet where two Boeing 757-200F aircraft are operated for TNT. The global freight market is having problems, and this also reflects on the ACMI market where the demand for capacity is rather slow.
-But basically, Icelandair Cargo is doing quite well in 2012, says Mr Sigurfinnsson, who refrains from offering concrete data.
