Oct 09, 2012 (newstodate): The establishing of the Danube FAB, functional airspace block, has now been secured.
In December 2011, an agreement was reached between Bulgaria and Romania to set up the FAB and this has now been ratified also by the governments of both states.
The new Danube FAB is slated for completion before the end of this year and will become functional in 2013.
With the FAB, aircraft entering the airspace of one of these countries will be free to select the most cost-effective route rather than having to stick to designated routes in each of these countries.
The implementation of the Danube FAB is in line with the regulations of the European Commission concerning formation of the Single European Sky.
EU requires that member states set up, by the end of 2012, functional airspace blocks.
