Oct 01, 2012 (newstodate): The owners of the Armenian carrier Armavia have reportedly now confirmed rumors that the airline has been put up for sale.
Since September 20, 2012, the carrier has suspended all flights at Yerevan Zvartnots Airport after accumulating at debts pile due the airport authorities.
Armavia has claimed that the airport's charges have been so high as to make further flights operations unprofitable.
It remains unknown how the airline will be sold, while industry sources have consistently claimed that the new owner will be an Italian investor.
The current 100 percent stakeholder in Armavia is Mikhail Baghdasarov who took over the company in 2005 through the acquisition of the Russian carrier S7's 68 percent of the shares.
Armavia operates a fleet of 10 aircraft including the first Superjet 100 put into commercial service but now for months already stuck in Russia.
