Jan 04, 2012 (newstodate): The SAS Group Finnish carrier Blue1 is now preparing to launch traffic between Stockholm Arlanda Airport and three small airports in Finland.
The new routes are set up to feed traffic from Finland into SAS' traffic system as a means to fight off competition from Finnair that is similarly intent to feed traffic into its traffic system via its JV carrier, Flybe Nordic.
Starting from March 25, 2012, Blue1 will introduce two daily flights on weekdays and one Sunday flight between Arlanda and Pori as well as Kokkola Airport, in both cases using SAAB2000 aircraft.
Starting from March 26, 2012, Blue1 will next launch flights between Stockholm and Oulu, providing one daily rotation with Boeing 717 aircraft.
All three routes are currently un-served and Blue1 will thus represent a new alternative in the local markets that have so far been connected to European flights by Finnair via Helsinki only.
In 2011, Finnair teamed up with the UK carrier Flybe to establish Flybe Nordic that is now setting up flights between Helsinki and Swedish destinations Norrkoping, Skelleftea, Mariehamn, and Umeaa.
