Jan 03, 2011 (newstodate): Ground handling at Helsinki Vantaa Airport is a most complex business.
-There are currently seven companies offering various kinds of ground handling services at the airport, with Havas Europe, formerly North Hub Services, from July 1, 2010 and Swissport Finland from December 1, 2011 as the latest newcomers. I am quite confident that not all of these will be present by the end of 2012, says an industry source.
-With this number of service companies there is too much equipment on the ramp, and as most of these companies are specialized in either internal, external cleaning, de-icing, ramp or cargo handling they are mostly operating in a variety of roles as main suppliers or sub-suppliers providing services to each other, and with complex contractual relationships to the end-users, the airlines.
-In the end, a limited number of ground handling companies will emerge, absorbing the smaller providers and simplifying the provider-customer relationships at Helsinki Vantaa Airport, he says.
