Jan 02, 2012 (newstodate): From the start of this year, NATO has contracted Russia's Volga-Dnepr and Azerbaijan's Silk Way Airlines to provide cargo uplift in support of its operations in Afghanistan.
The two carriers are thus replacing the Georgian carrier Sky Georgia that has so far operated for NATO with five IL-76 freighters.
By the start of November 2011, the Georgian government, however, revoked the carrier's license quoting deficiencies in its technical capability, forcing it out of the lucrative contract.
