Jan 02, 2012 (newstodate): The China-freighter service into Kaunas, Lithuania, continuing to Frankfurt is at least momentarily suspended.
Operating the weekly Boeing 747-400F flight is Jade Cargo that is currently grounded.
-We can confirm that Jade Cargo International has announced a temporary suspension of its services until January 16, 2012. This suspension is due to overall weak air cargo demand, says Alexander Kohnen, Lufthansa Cargo Director for the Nordic and Baltic countries.
-It will also provide the shareholders with an opportunity to coordinate with stakeholders to continue with the restructuring of the company's financial structure.
-In case Lufthansa Cargo customers are affected by the suspension, we will do our utmost to reduce the effects to a minimum, says Mr Kohnen.
Industry sources say that the future of Jade Cargo is in the balance as the carrier is among the ventures now carefully assessed by Lufthansa Cargo in an effort to rein in critical project investments.
Launched in 2005, Jade Cargo is 25 percent owned by Lufthansa Cargo, with the Chinese carrier Shenzhen Airlines holding 51 percent of the shares.
