Volumes on the carrier's passenger aircraft increased by 6.5 percent to 111,620 tonnes, while freighter loads were up 98 percent, y-o-y, to 34,009 tonnes in 2011.
79,281 tonnes of cargo were carried on Finnair flights to and from Asia, an increase by 8.6 percent, y-o-y, while volumes on European routes increased by 2.5 percent to 21,965 tonnes.
December 2011 was more positive with total volumes up 25.3 percent, y-o-y, to 11,902 tonnes, comprising 8,425 tonnes on Finnair pax aircraft and 3,458 tonnes on freighters, up 26.7 and 22.7 percent, respectively.
The company's load factor dropped 10.6 percentage-points in 2011, and 8.2 percentage-points in December, reflecting the market situation where capacity overtakes demand due to weak economies and slowing growth in China and Asia, especially.
