Jan 03, 2012 (newstodate): The Faeroe Islands' carrier Atlantic Airways is looking forward to take in its new Airbus A319 aircraft by the second half of March 2012.
-Earlier, we did operate with a delivery date by November 2011, but eventually opted for March 2012 instead as this fits better into our plans for the summer operations, says Magni Arge, Atlantic Airways CEO.
-This first year will serve as an introduction to the new aircraft that will primarily be operated on the daily flights to Copenhagen, Denmark. But as capacity allows, we will also launch a weekly flight to Barcelona, Spain, from June to August 2012, as an own scheduled route in cooperation with some travel agencies.
-During the winter season we will have spare capacity to consider also other options, besides the route to Copenhagen, but it is still too early to announce any details on this.
-All preconditions for taking delivery of the aircraft are now falling into place, including training and type rating of flight captains, and we will go for four to five cockpit crews for a start in order to secure sufficient flying hours for each pilot. Also the infrastructure of Vagar Airport is now in place to handling of the new aircraft, says Mr Arge.
