Sep 12, 2011 (newstodate): If you are dazzled by the passenger volumes at the world biggest airports in 2010, China will take your breath away when its new capital airport at Beijing is opened by 2015.
In 2010, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport again topped the list as the world's largest in terms of volumes, 89 million passengers.
When fully operative, the coming Beijing Daxing International airport will have the capacity of handling 370,000 passengers per day, corresponding to some 135 million passengers per year!
The airport will have eight runways for commercial traffic plus a ninth runway for military use - with space available for further expansions.
Beijing's existing airport has its handling ceiling at 75 million passengers, and reached 73 million already last year, driving the need for a substitute.
The Chinese market for air transportation is expected to grow by 7.6 percent annually, creating a need for some 5,000 new commercial aircraft before 2030 according to Boeing.
