Sep 02, 2011 (newstodate): As many other airports, Denmark's Billund Airport is also now seeing depression in the air cargo volumes, with August as the third month in 2011 with negative growth in total volumes.
In August, a total of 5,586 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, down 4.4 percent, y-o-y.
So far the positive monthly growth figures have been driven by the airport's export volumes that are still positive in August - but dipping to "only" 9.7 percent's increase to 2,732 tonnes.
Import volumes have long been in the red, dropping a further 14.9 percent, y-o-y, to 2,854 tonnes in August.
In January-August, Billund Airport has handled a total of 41,700 tonnes, up 5.3 percent on 2010, with export volumes up 21 percent to 21,217 tonnes, and imports trailing behind with a 7.2 percent decrease, to 20,483 tonnes.
