Sep 12, 2011 (newstodate): The latest effort by the Serb government to attract foreign airlines to bid for its ailing carrier JAT seems to end as earlier attempts.
After having postponed the deadline for participating in the tender for JAT till September 30, 2011, no potential partners have showed up, leaving the Serb carrier in a limbo.
Plans were that a new owner would take over JAT from the start of 2012, aiming at setting up a new Serb national carrier with the assets of the existing JAT including route rights and staff, but with a new aircraft fleet - and with the debt left for the state to foot.
If the tender process ends without any results, as now seems probable, the Serb state will have to liquidate the existing carrier and let the market rule.
