Sep 02, 2011 (newstodate): Since July 15, 2011, Unitpool has been managing the ULD fleet of SAS Cargo.
SAS Cargo has outsourced its entire fleet of ULDs, about 2,000 units, to Unitpool, except for the fleet of temperature-controlled units.
-Our fleet of ULDs had reached the age where a decision had to be taken about either to acquire new units or outsource the fleet, says Kenneth Fuhrmann, SAS Cargo Director Network and Revenue Management.
-Considering the significant costs involved in managing a fleet of ULDs including maintenance programs and logistics, we decided instead to utsource this activity that is not a core business for SAS Cargo.
-Our limited stock of temperature-controlled ULDs including the five Temptainers where we have ourselves been directly involved in development and specifications remain, however, with us as they are operated on a rather select network with customers in the pharmaceutical and perishables industries, served by SAS Cargo, says Mr Fuhrmann.
