Sep 09, 2011 (newstodate): Statistics from major Russian airports prove that the volumes of airfreight in Russia is growing.
Latest statistics from Kurumoch International Airport in the Volga Region, ranked among Russia's Top-10 airports, show an increase in August 2011 by 29.5 percent, y-o-y, to 462 tonnes.
The airport's focus is not, however, on cargo despite efforts to boost volumes.
Passenger traffic at the airport during January-August 2011 reached 1.1 mio passengers, also increasing more than 20 percent.
The airport is currently in a tender process for 96 percent of the stake in Kurumoch International Airport, and a final decision and contract with the winning party will be signed by December 12, 2011.
As part of the obligations to be met by the winner is the construction of new cargo facilities at the airport.
