Sep 14, 2011 (newstodate): Lufthansa Technik Sofia, founded in 2007 as a JV between Lufthansa Technik and the Bulgarian Aviation Group, has announced its decision to expand facilities at Sofia Airport.
The company will invest in a new project comprising the construction of three additional lines for aircraft repairs.
Lufthansa Technik Sofia will also build a hangar dedicated to the base maintenance of Bulgaria Air's fleet as Lufthansa Technik Sofia takes over all maintenance work of the national carrier, including line maintenance of the fleet in Sofia, Varna and Bourgas.
So far, Lufthansa Technik Sofia has provided maintenance service on 40 aircraft from more than 20 carriers in Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa, and plans to service another 35 aircraft over the next 17 months.
Lufthansa Technik Sofia currently occupies a 12,500m² area at Sofia Airport, equipped with two maintenance bays that can accommodate, service and paint two narrow-body aircraft simultaneously.
