Sep 26, 2011 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic did not succeed in its effort to gain legal protection by the court.
The situation is thus back to square-one. But in a statement by the airline's CEO, Bertolt Flick, on Friday, airBaltic confirms its intention to uphold the traffic on its route network while seeking ways to inject fresh capital into the airline, with or without state participation.
On the other hand, a new turn may be imminent: the Latvian state has aired an alternate plan - setting up a new airline to take over the role as national carrier.
-It is now no longer surprising why a solution regarding airBaltic has not been reached for more than six months, while at the same time details of a new airline will be clear within the coming days at the earliest and within two weeks at the latest, according to the governments consultant, says Mr Flick in the statement.
-Confidence in Latvia's national airline airBaltic has been methodically and systematically undermined in the public rhetoric by the government in order to pave the way for a potential new project, he states.
