Sep 12, 2011 (newstodate): Qatar Airways is sure to move up the ladder in Norway when it comes to air cargo volumes.
The carrier is to launch flights between Doha and Oslo, Norway, from October 5, 2011, offering five weekly flights on the route.
Actually, Qatar Airways is already rather strong in the market, ranking as IATA carrier #4 in July 2011 as to export air cargo out of Norway, and so far trucking into Copenhagen Airport where the carrier has been online since March 30, 2010 and is now offering daily rotations.
In July 2011, Qatar carried 811 tonnes of export cargo from Norway.
Topping the list in July 2011 was Korean Air Cargo with 1,054 tonnes, followed by Finnair Cargo, 1,050 tonnes, and KLM Cargo with 887 tonnes.
The top-three carriers on the list were, however, rather close in market shares with Korean and Finnair both holding 14.2 percent, KLM snatching 12 and Qatar taking 11 percent of the market.
Driving Norway's airfreight export market is the uplift of Norwegian fresh salmon to the global marketplace, primarily the Asian consumers.
