Sep 30, 2011 (newstodate): Lufthansa Consulting has worked with Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport on a strategic project of developing the airports of Khabarovsk and Vladivostok.
The German company's task has been to work out a joint strategy for the two airports in Russia's Far East, especially to define their potential roles as hubs for both domestic and international air traffic.
According to the findings, Khabarovsk Airport will see its prime role as a hub in Russia's Far East for provision of international passenger and cargo traffic, while Vladivostok will primarily be developed as a hub serving international carrier's passenger and cargo air transport needs.
If the potentials of these two airports are fully utilized, they may see up to 5.5 mio passengers and 120,000 tonnes of airfreight by 2015, the consultant says.
This will, however, require a redevelopment of the airports' infrastructures and facilities.
