Sep 30, 2011 (newstodate): Today is closing time for another effort by the Serb state go find a new owner for JAT.
The tender was opened on August 1, 2011, and the closing of the tender was extended to expire on September 30, 2011 - but despite some carriers sniffing at JAT, not a single party eventually bought the tender documentation.
In the confused situation, several scenarios are reportedly on the table for keeping a Serb national carrier in the air, but it remains to be seen to what extent politicians can eventually cooperate to achieve a durable solution.
Plans were that a new owner would take over JAT from the start of 2012, aiming at setting up a new Serb national carrier with the assets of the existing JAT including route rights and staff, but with a new aircraft fleet - and with the debt left for the state to foot.
