Sep 13, 2011 (newstodate): The long drawn-out process for solving the issue of air cargo safety at Copenhagen Airport is back to square-one.
The decision by Spirit Air Cargo Handling to move all handling activities back to Terminal North, adjacent to the passenger aircraft apron, means that it can now focus on solving its own security issues which affects some 80 percent of the cargo operations.
The problem thus rests with only one major cargo handling company, WFS and to some extent on Post Denmark as to air mail, which leaves the solution earlier agreed upon, a video surveillance system, off the mark.
The responsibility for negotiating a new decision has now been placed with Lars Korup, Copenhagen Airport Key Account Manager, and a meeting is due to be called shortly.
A solution will probably be a fleet of dedicated protected cargo carts to ensure against any pilfering with cargo shipments transported from the airport's eastern cargo area across the line to the inner security zone surrounding the passenger aircraft area.
