Sep 01, 2011 (newstodate): Latvia's Baltic Cargo Center at Riga Airport saw volumes in H1 2011 about the same level as last year.
A total of 4,870 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled at the facility, a slight increase by four percent, y-o-y, with mail volumes constituting 37 percent of the total, unchanged from last year's H1.
Some changes were noticeable, however, as the share of transit cargo dropped from 61 percent in H1 2010 to 58 percent in 2011.
Similarly, the share of cargo shipments on airBaltic dropped from 83 percent in H1 2010 to 81 percent in H1 2011.
Summing up, more cargo through the terminal was destined for or originated in Latvia, and more cargo was lifted by carriers other than the national carrier airBaltic.
Thus, cargo to and from Riga grew by 37 percent in exports and eight percent in imports.
