Sep 23, 2011 (newstodate): Is the Latvian carrier airBaltic at the end of the rope?
As the majority stakeholder, the Latvian state has contracted the Prudentia consulting company to look into the airline's unaudited accounts for 2010, which has reportedly revealed huge losses as well as other disputable issues in accounting.
While this must be considered as biased evidence, it still carries wood to the fire around airBaltic that has filed for protection in an effort to keep the business running until a final solution is found.
According to the CEO of Prudentia, the state is now considering the establishing of a new national carrier to replace airBaltic if it fails to survive.
