Aug 09, 2011 (newstodate): Russia's Kazan International Airport, in Tatarstan, is to be modernized and upgraded.
Federal funds have been allocated to projects including reconstruction of the runway system, taxiways, passenger facilities and apron as well as other pertinent infrastructure.
Kazan International Airport has two runways at 2,724 and 2,498 m, respectively.
All modernization projects will be completed in time for the Universiade 2013 in the region.
In the first six months of 2011 the airport handled a total of 502,000 passengers, up 23.7 percent, y-o-y.
International passenger volume in H1 grew by 14.4 percent, while passengers on domestic flights were up 31.3 percent, y-o-y.
