Aug 2, 2011 (newstodate): While H1 statistics from Stockholm Arlanda Airport are still pending, the over-all feeling is that the airport is doing pretty well in cargo volumes.
-June was absolutely performing strongly, and while we are still chasing the last remaining data inputs on cargo volumes I expect the H1 figures to be quite satisfactory, says Karsten Bjarbo, Swedavia Stockholm Arlanda cargo manager.
-Despite the fluctuations in world economy, forwarders report strong trends in business and we have also seen no decline in airline frequencies. Korean Air Cargo has maintained its three weekly freighter operations, and we are expecting Cathay Pacific Cargo to return its second weekly operations soon. We understand that the main reason for this delay is lack of aircraft capacity after the earlier grounding of the carrier's Boeing 747-200F operations.
-We are working hard to attract new freighter traffic to Stockholm Arlanda, hoping for a service to USA as well as new operators to bring in fresh capacity to India, Asia and the Middle East especially. Negotiations are being conducted, and hopefully fresh efforts after the slack summer season will produce results, says Mr Bjarbo.
