Aug 19, 2011 (newstodate): SAS is amidst an ambitious fleet planning process with several orders for new aircraft over the last few months.
In its latest half-year report, SAS notes the intention to add more Boeing 737NG aircraft before the end of this year, in addition to the five Boeing 737-800 and 12 Boeing 737-700 aircraft already ordered for production in the Norwegian and Swedish markets, respectively.
The Boeing 737NG aircraft will replace the remaining 20 MD80 and Boeing 737 Classics not later than 2015.
Earlier, SAS also signed a contract to purchase 30 new A320neo aircraft for delivery from 2016 and an option for a further 11 A320neo.
The Airbus A320neo aircraft will be alloced to the Danish market, where the company will lease a number of A320 aircraft to replace the 17 MD80 aircraft currently operating from Copenhagen.
