Aug 10, 2011 (newstodate): Russia is considering a ban on small airlines to perform scheduled passenger services.
The proposal may target carriers with less than 20 aircraft of the same type.
If carried through, the small carriers will be prohibited from offering scheduled passenger flights, restrained to charter operations only.
Statistics prove that today some 98 percent of all Russian passengers fly on only 10 airlines.
Today, some 140 Russian carriers are issued with an AOC.
