Aug 04, 2011 (newstodate): Russia may soon see the opening of a new civilian airport at Kursk.
Kursk Vostochny Airport is today still a military air base, but the process for transferring the airport from the Ministry of Defense to a new state-owned enterprise is soon to be completed, sources say.
Before the introduction of commercial air traffic, the 2,500m runway must be renovated in a process due to be completed by the end of October this year.
The use of the runway was suspended in 2010 due to its low operational standard.
