Aug 31, 2011 (newstodate): Georgia's president has high and lofty ambitions for the further developments of the country's airport infrastructure.
The president foresees the opening of no less than 10 new airports during his presidency.
One of these that are already under construction is Zugdidi Airport where a new runway has recently been commissioned, while a new passenger terminal is currently under construction.
The opening of Zugdidi Airport is planned for 2012.
Another new airport is Poti Airport to be opened in 2013 offering also international flights, earlier operating commercial flights but devoid of operations since the early 90'ies.
So for the locations of the remaining eight further airports has not been revealed.
The country's main airport is Tbilisi International Airport handling 820,000 passengers in 2010.
