Aug 16, 2011 (newstodate): The new freighter carrier, Nordic Global Airlines Ltd based in Helsinki, Finland, is plying the freighter route network of Finnair Cargo since August 1, 2011.
Heading the carrier as CEO is Maunu Visuri, Finnair Cargo VP Fleet Management from 2006 to taking up his new position in June 2011, while the carrier's COO is Timothy Ford, coming from Miami-based company Air Transport Business Development Inc where he served as VP Training.
The carrier now operates two MD-11F aircraft on an ACMI contract, and plans are to add one or two more freighter per year in the time ahead.
The first batch of pilots has been hired, including eight captains and six First Officers.
In addition to the existing Finnair Cargo freighter destinations, plans ahead for Nordic Cargo Airlines also include destinations in India.
Behind Nordic Global Airlines is the majority investor, the US-based Neff Capital Management LLC together with the Finnish company Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company, while Finnair Cargo holds 40 percent of the shares.
