Aug 25, 2011 (newstodate): Lithuania's Kaunas Airport is seeing its cargo performance sliding in 2011, compared to last year.
A total of 384 tonnes of cargo was handled at Kaunas Airport in July 2011, down 34 percent, y-o-y, following on a drop in June by nine percent.
During the first seven months of 2011, total volumes were 2,242 tonnes, nine percent below last year's volumes.
So far most of the cargo has been imports from China by Hoptrans and Agility, but from August 27, 2011, Lufthansa Cargo will launch flights from Kaunas via Frankfurt to Mumbai, India, taking over the Jade Cargo Boeing 747-400 freighter flying in from China.
That operation has so far stopped at Kaunas, with the Jade Cargo freighter leaving empty for deployment to other routes.
Adding export cargo, Kaunas Airport may be in for a revival of its growth in volumes.
