Aug 16, 2011 (newstodate): Poland's Katowice Airport saw its cargo volumes up by 4.5 percent, y-o-y, during the first half of 2011.
A total of 6,063 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, primarily transported on several ad-hoc charter operations.
The total tonnage included 3,655 tonnes of imports and 2,407 tonnes of export cargo.
Among the major ad-hoc charter operations were two calls by the Russian airline Polet's Il 96-400T freighter, one in February lifting 90 tonnes of cargo to Moscow, and the second on May 15, 2011, on an ad-hoc mission for Japan.
Other freighter ad-hoc operations during H1 2011 included MD-11F flights by World Airways Cargo for Johannesburg, and two Atlas Air Boeing 747-400F operations aircraft on one day, destined for Buenos Aires.
