Aug 22, 2011 (newstodate): On the horizon is a renewed effort to revive the concept of a freighter service to lift fresh Norwegian salmon to Asian markets.
Named Arctic Cargo Airlines, the fresh initiative is targeting the export of salmon from producers in the northern parts of Norway that may gain significantly on time if the exports shipments are lifted from an airport in the northern region, rather than having to send it more than 1,000 km by trucks to Oslo or to other airports in the south of Scandinavia.
Plans are to set up a freighter service at Luleaa Kallax Airport in northern Sweden with flights to Japan, and the plans also comprise visions of carrying shipments on the return flight from Japan or China via Luleaa Kallax Airport to destinations in Europe.
Several attempts have already been made to make Luleaa Kallax Airport an exit point for Norwegian salmon, but so far all have failed after a short period.
